Cleanliness
music: Dreaming of you - Selena
mood: Musing
It's interesting. I'd always assumed that people who've lived with maids all their lives would be relatively messy people since they've always had someone to help pick up and clean after them. Heck, I know I'M a messy person - my room is a constant testimony of that. :p But after talking to my sis, who's also experienced living out in a house when studying overseas, we've both agreed that having had a maid for all of our lives has spoilt us, but in an entirely different way from what you'd expect - our maid S has done such a good job of keeping our house spick and span that she's gotten us so used to a high level of hygiene that we actually cannot stand it when the house is in a mess. I don't mind having a messy room, but stuff like piles of dirty dishes in the sink or a grimy floor really get to me and then I have the urge to immediately clean up the mess. In fact, a couple of days ago I gave our toilet a total cleanover since the grime was getting to me. And though I ended up not cleaning the bathtub (I'd originally planned to since it was rather dusty but decided not to in the end since no one ever uses it), I think I did a pretty good job - the toilet was practically sparkling clean when I was done with it. And my housemate I thanked me for doing a good job, which made me all happy and glowy but also made me realise how much of a greedy I-need-some-appreciation-after-having-done-something-please fiend I am... it's quite bad really. ^_^;;
But yes, anyway, so to all you people out there who think that having maids is totally unecessary and will spoil your kids rotten or will end up cultivating lazy bones children who don't mind living in utter filth as long as they don't have to lift a finger to clean up, think again. Having a maid can actually be a GOOD thing. :D [Karma: -4 (+/-)][link]

Whoever said Singaporeans weren't creative?
music: First Kiss - Zero no Tsukaima OP
mood: rofl
Bwahahaha.
mr. brown is really a genius. At first I was wondering how he could possibly poke fun at a subject like this, since there's not much intelligent poking fun at that can possibly be generated, but then about halfway through the podcast you realise he's poking fun at something else which we all Singaporeans love to mock too. (No spoilers since it's much funnier if you listen to it yourself.) And it helps that I love the accent - makes me feel nostalgic since you don't get much in Singaporean accents around here. :D
Help, I think I'm getting addicted to the mr. brown show. :p [Karma: 8 (+/-)][link] [157 Comments]

Family Humour
music: Mitsukete Happy Life - Goto Yuko as Asahina Mikuru
mood: Amused
Oh, and btw, since I appear to be on a humour kick, I thought I might as well post this extract from an old email my mom sent me - the stuff my mom says can be so hilarious. Especially when it comes to poking fun at her own kids. XD
I asked [our maid] if she wants a dog [for security reasons]. but she kept quiet. Guess she does not want the extra work. Dad said if we get a dog this time it should be a mongrel. Healthy and robust. He said that if we are not free to feed the dog, we just open the gate and let it run out to hunt a couple of birds for food. That's his idea of taking care of a dog. Get it to do its own thing. I think he thinks that's the way to bring up kids. You all are darn luck to have me around.
And I like that the email was also entitled "Yakkity Yak with Ke". For some reason I just find that it sounds incredibly amusing. And also reminds me that my dad was the one who taught me the phrase "Yakkity Yak, don't talk back" along with other stuff like "See ya later, Alligator!" when I was a kid. Man, I love my crazy family. XD [Karma: -2 (+/-)][link] [3 Comments]

Singaporean Humour
music: Shangrila - Chatmoncy
mood: ROFLMAO
My Dad recently sent me a podcast from mr brown's blog which poked fun at the Singapore Government's Speak Good English campaign, and I ended up searching for the the "Mee Siam Mai Hum" podcast as well which Cheryl told me about as well ages ago. They're both really hilarious (the Mee Siam Mai Hum one just KILLS me), but nothing beats this:
We All Live in Singapura by Hossan Leong. This is INCREDIBLY hilarious - I could barely stop laughing when I watched it. Note however, that it probably won't be funny to non-Singaporeans since only Singaporeans will be able to get all the references in the song. :D But for all you Singaporeans out there, I would say this is a MUST watch - we Singaporeans do love nothing more than poking fun at our country, our government and ourselves, after all. *grin*
I'm reminded of how Cheryl and I actually saw Hossan Leong in the National Library during one of our study sessions during the summer hols - I'm not the rabid fan/stalker type though I do think he's quite a funny guy, so I didn't do anything much other than stare at him from a distance. (Though of course I tried to do it as unobtrusively as possible. :p) I suppose it "helped" that he also looked like he was in kind of a pissed off mood - or maybe that's just how he looks when he's not smiling and isn't being all joky. Goodness knows I've had friends asked me if I was in a bad mood when I was simply just not smiling at the moment. *laughs*
But anyway, I digressed. What I wanted to say is that after watching the video, it makes me wonder if he's gay. Anyone knows anything about this? I'm not being prejudiced or anti-gay or anything, since I'm perfectly ok with homosexuals, but I'm just rather curious. I tend to have a very bad gay-dar so I can never tell if people are gay/lesbian or not until someone actually tells me. :p [Karma: -2 (+/-)][link] [No Comments]

Work and laughter
music: Amused
mood: Egao no Wake - Shounen Onmyouji OP by Hijikata Kaori
Correction. It's TWO tutorials I have to prepare for tomorrow, AND another TWO on Monday, as a result of missing one tutorial last week and a tutor having to push forward a tutorial due to the fact that she won't be free on the actual scheduled day. -_- (Yes, I really should not be online right now. Damn me and my weak willpower. *sigh* Will kick myself off in about 7 mins time. Or perhaps attempt is a better word to insert in that sentence. :p)
But this isn't really the point of this entry. I actually just wanted to copy and paste something here that I found rather amusing - my mom sent me a link to sign up to this "service" which sends you a vocab word a day in the email, and even though this time I've actually come across the word before thanks to the walking dictionary that is my dad, it had an amusing accompanying commentary:
hoi polloi (hoi puh-LOI) noun
The common people, the masses.
[From Greek hoi polloi (the many).]
The phrase is often mistakenly used to refer to the elite or the
snobbish, quite opposite of what it really means. That usage arises
probably from the first part sounding similar to "high" or from
confusion with the term hoity toity.
The term often appears as "the hoi polloi". Some pedants object to
that construction, claiming "the" is already part of the term. If
you find such people, tell them to go study gebra and drink cohol.
-Anu Garg (garg wordsmith.org)
I find it extra amusing since it was my dad who had also pointed out the "the" problem to me when he taught me that phrase. XD (Though I can thankfully say he isn't a pedant. Not usually, anyway.)

Cute does not even BEGIN to cover this
music: Natsu no Yoru no Yume - DNAngel
mood: *melting*
OMG THIS IS SO DAMN CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's it, I'm adding a Welsh Corgi to Dream House list of pets. Which as of now consists of: Golden Retriever, Schnauzer (sp?), Welsh Corgi, Minature Daschund, Siamese Short Hair Cat, Otter, Ferret, Hedgehog, Fox.
Such a "realistic" dream house, hm? :p
And for this video, the part with the shoe is so. frickin'. ADORABLE! *dissolves into a puddle of goo*

music: Qing Tian - Zhou Jie Lun
mood: Feeling loved
I just feel so loved. These past few days have really helped me to appreciate my friends much more, and have also made me realise just how lucky I am to have these friends. Seriously, I'm just grinning away like a maniac now thanks to this snippet of conversation I had with a friend:
me: man, i think i won't have seen you guys for what, 4-5 days?
v: alamak....
me: since i didn't see on sat, on sun, today, and tomorrow since we don't have lessons together
me: i miss you!
v: i know
v: hahaha
v: miss you too
v: whn we were at the poster sale
v: we were like, "yan has tis one"
v: oh my god, "tis is so yan"
v: see how much we miss u
It's just all the small little things that make you realise how wonderful it is that you actually have people who care for you. *in bliss*
Edit:
D: Congrats, you got the acronym right! Though I bet it wasn't THAT difficult to figure out. :p And haha, I didn't realise I spelt it out in full either... though I suppose when you say it out loud, there's not much difference between D and Dee. :p (I thought of editing the entry after your comment, but thought it'll probably be useless since the "Dee" is in the comments too. ^_^;; I'll try to be more careful next time. TGNGIFO!
music: 'Tis the Season to be Jolly as sung by yours truly
mood: Insanely relieved and happy
Nottingham Games is finally over!
I think the fact that the first couple of bars of the song "'Tis the season to be jolly" unconsciously ermerged from my lips after having sunk into a chair in my room and having relaxed my oh-so-tired and aching muscles (from having taken orders/tried to deal with screwups with said food/tried not to hate myself for being so useless/served food/cleaned up the place after the dinner/carried some heavy MSS property back home ) is a sign that I'm immensely relieved and happy now that everything's all over. No more endless stressing out and worrying about the budget/potential screwups/things not going right, no more having to call a million and one people to arrange food/voluntering, no more staying up late to finish up preparations for the games! All the bad stuff just sinks off into the distance as the relief of everything being over and done with envelopes me in a nice warm fuzzy relaxing cloud.
It is all finally OVER! *dances*
... now all I have to do is survive through my mooting preparation and the actual thing itself. -_- (Good luck, myself! *gazes off into the far off distance*)
EDIT: I just went to check my blog (since for some reason Greymatter doesn't seem to notify me anymore when I get comments - I must figure out how to fix that), and I just realised I had 6 comments on my previous entry! That's heck of a lot for me. 0_o Thanks so much for all the words of encouragement, my dear friends. Going through this rough patch has really made me realise how grateful I am to have friends who are wiling to support me and glue me back when I go to pieces. I love you all! (And I don't say that often, so cherish it! :p)
Replies to the comments:
K: Thanks, I hung in there and now I'm alive! And boy am I ever so grateful to be alive. I would never have experienced this amazing feeling of immense relief otherwise. :p
D: When I first read your comment, I was all, "Uh? Did Dee try to come over and see me after reading my entry or something? Why is she going to be over (at my place) soon?" Then I read your next comment and was like, Aw, Dee doesn't love me enough to want to come over to comfort me. XD (Though I'm glad that I'm still muchly loved by my peas. XD)
Tiff: It's all right, no need to worry about me overusing it anymore, since after mooting it will ALL.BE.OVER!!!!!!!!!
Di: I'm glad I made your day. Lots of people have been making mine so it's only right to spread the love. :D [Karma: -4 (+/-)][link] [2 Comments]

Blood pressure's rising
music: Lord of the Dance (Am frantically playing it on repeat in the hopes that it'll cheer me up)
mood: Extremely stressed. (DISTRESS, people, not eustress! >_<)
I think I have never been so stressed in my life. Ever. Not even all those times when I put off doing my essays until I had to pull over-nighters to finish them and hand them up the next day.
Organising a huge event like the MSS games is a giant pain and nerve-wrecker. So many things are going wrong, there are so many things to plan for, so many things I've overlooked and failed to plan for. It's driving me nuts, especially since if anything goes wrong on the day itself, we'll have to deal with lots of unhappy people. Not to mention that we're having some serious money issues... and I have so much to vent on THAT, but which I can't since it's the sort of confidential stuff that you can't ever publicise since you never know who might be reading this.
Speaking of which, a new (bad) thing I learned about myself: I go to pieces when I'm under stress/annoyed/having a bad day. I ended up spilling half a bag of frozen peas over the stove and floor today because of the mood I was in, and then after rescuing said peas and putting them in a saucepan to be washed, promptly dropped more of them in the sink while I was doing so. In the end S had to help me do the job since I was about to launch into one of those whiny-I'mgonnaCRY-though-actually-I'm-not-I'm-just-saying-that-because-I-feel-like-crap fits. Thank goodness for friends at times like this.
Good god, I can't wait until this Saturday is over. [Karma: -6 (+/-)][link] [7 Comments]
