Of work and free lunches and hypothetical scenarios
mood: Sleepy

I've been getting grouchier and grouchier about work since it's been so mundane and repetitive. I think the fact that I'm doing it for free has become the thorn that rankles at my side - whilst I don't actually really WANT to be paid since I'd feel bad for demanding it (although of course getting paid would be a lovely bonus. :p), it's the realisation that I'm really not getting anything useful out of the work I'm doing in terms of learning experience that makes me feel like I'm wasting my time. I suppose I really shouldn't be so selfish and think of it that way, since I AM doing something useful for the lawyer I'm working for, but ugh. Try telling that to yourself after hours on end of nothing but mindless copying and pasting and staring at the computer screen until your eyes water. >_<[More...]

Life update!
mood: Relaxed

Just zapped off an email to DYDCT explaining a bit about what I'm currently doing, so I thought I'd paste it here so that those of you who read my blog (yes, all 3 or so of you. :p) can be updated too. With some edits to make it more coherent. :p

I've been mostly doing administrative work at my dad's law firm which consists of copying and pasting data from an excel spreadsheet into individual word documents, so it's very boring and brainless and no-value-add work. I have over 1200 documents to do since basically what happened is that a certain governmental body is selling some dormitorys to a company (i.e. in the future the company buying it will be the ones in charge of running the dorms), and normally what a lawyer can do to transfer the ownership rights is to create a document called an assignment which is essentially about three pages, and then all you have to do is attach a list of all the current tenants to it. But for some reason the client wants to have these documents called novations created for EACH AND EVERY SINGLE ONE of the UNITS within the dorms, hence the insane number of documents I have to create. Not to mention that they will apparently have to print out THREE copies of EACH document, since it has to be signed by the governmental body, the company and each tenant (so each can keep a copy themselves). It's insanity. I really do think law firms are giant tree-killers. Though at least the lawyer I'm doing this for is hoping that she can just zap off the soft copies to the clients and make them do all the printing so we don't have to do it. :p And actually, I was told that these documents were actually due about two weeks ago. 0_o

And well, although I complain a lot it's not really that bad. Since I'm free slave labour, I can actually leave early every day if I want to (though of course I try not to.) And my dad has reassured me that what I'm doing is pretty important since they can't really get started on their work if the documents aren't sent out. So at least I know I'm not wasting my time. And it's quite fun since aside from two new people I've met, my dad actually brought some people over with him when he switched firms, so I know some people from there already from the time when I interned at my dad's old firm, and they're all really fun and friendly people. Not to mention I get yummy free lunches with my dad/mom/another lawyer every day. :D Though one bad thing is that I spent so much time typing/clicking around on the computer screen that after the end of the day my right arm kind of aches. ^_^;;

Also, since I've been terribly negligent in my blog updating, I'm hoping to post a sort of summarised list of points of the stuff I've been doing the past two months or so soon. Though I'm not going to promise it since I know I break such promises really easily. (For shame! :p)

Home
music: National Day Parade 2007 Soundtrack. XD

Watched the National Day Rally speech yesterday, though I must admit I didn't see the whole of it (overall, including the Malay and Chinese bits, I think it took about 3 hours or maybe more?) since I only watched the English bit (of course. :p) and the TV room sofa was so comfortable that I ended up snoozing a bit during the middle. XD In my defense, so did my dad. Though I don't have the quite same defense that he does since I'm in no way overworked like he is. *sheepish*

I realise that sometimes my friends may think I don't think much of the PAP since I sometimes complain about some of the stuff the PAP does. And I also don't tend to talk about my views on Singapore much since I'm usually afraid that I'll start saying stupid or uninformed stuff. :p But in reality, I think I'm actually a pretty staunch PAP supporter. I suppose it's because I'm ultimately a fiercely relatively nationalistic Singaporean and as much as some people would like it otherwise, you have to admit that there would be no modern Singapore today without the PAP. It really is amazing how far we've advanced in just these 42 years, and I'm quite sure I'll never be ashamed to declare myself a Singaporean.

Face Photo-matching
mood: Amused

Putting this here since dear Tiff actually took the effort to do this for me:

Though really, the way they choose matches is based not really on your looks but more of the expression on your face and the your pose. ^_^;; And although I've known this for quite a while already, this is proof that I have a VERY CHINESE face. (Since I've mentioned this to some friends before but they didn't agree with me.)

Singapore Passport
music: Xenogears OST
mood: Excited

Omg, this is so cool! I just found out that Singapore actually allows you to renew your passport online! And not to mention that you get a $10 rebate on it! (Since they want to encourage you to use this method to cut down on admin costs.) I always knew you could do it by post, but I didn't know they actually had an online service too. It's times like this when I really appreciate how lucky I am to belong to such an efficient and high-tech country.
