Mothers... *sigh*
mood: Annoyed

Sometimes my mother just drives me INSANE. Previously, I had introduced a couple of my friends to this really amazing anime, Ouran High School Host Club, and managed to successfully addict 5 of them. So as a joke, I changed part of my msn nickname to: "Ouran Koukou is the new drug... and I'm the drug dealer. Come get your dosage now!" Nothing wrong with that, right? A perfectly harmless joke. But then my mom messages me on msn, telling me to get rid of that nickname since I might give people the "wrong ideas" since I was "proclaiming to be a drug dealer". Right. Whatever. *cue rolling of eyes* This despite the fact that the only people who can see my nickname are the people I have on my list (Since it's on that secondary part of the nickname that only friends can see), AND despite the fact that I'm really quite sure that none of my friends know me so little as to ever seriously think I was into the habit of peddling drugs.

This is the same mother who also told my younger cousin to take off any references to wanting to bomb his school on his msn nickname. For me and my friends, I'm sure that in the past we've joked any number of times about wanting to set fire to the teachers' rooms so that our exam papers couldn't be graded. But that's just all it was. A JOKE. I think it extremely unlikely that any of us ever seriously considered going through with our words, let alone started hoarding barrels of kerosene and matches in our homes for that purpose.

My mother brought up the example of that American girl who was stupid enough to go up to a security guard at the airport and joke that she had a bomb in her suitcase. But personally, I don't think these two scenarios are analgous. In my case, my nickname will only be read by people I actually KNOW, so that's only in a SOCIAL context. My "statement" would only be spread to a small circle of people who have actually met and spoken to me before, so it is likely that they will know it's a joke since they know I'm not the kind of person to deal with drugs. (I would certainly hope that's the case. 0_o) But in the girl's case, she chose to go up to a complete stranger, who was obviously on his job at the time, and made a joke that had stuff to do concerning his job. So obviously she should have known that the guy would take the joke seriously, since it concerns his livelihood - it's his JOB to apprehend possible terrorists. Not to mention that the TIMING in which she chose to make that job was a very bad one - after the events of 9/11, she should have known that airport security was very tight and that everyone would be very jittery with regards to any mention of bombs at all. So while the outcome of her joke ended badly, I doubt any of my friends would actually honestly think I was a drug dealer and report me to the authorities JUST because of a change in my nickname, especially since I have NEVER engaged in any activites relating to drugs whatsoever. (Except when I go to the doctor to get medicine when I'm sick. :p)

But whatever, I decided that I might as well just get rid of that nickname to make my mom happy. It's so much easier to give in than to bother fighting for what I want, especially if it's over something small like this. It's kind of sad, actually - I think gradually over the years I've come to develop a "It's better to go along with it and too bothersome to fight it so I should just give in to whatever they want" metal attitude when it comes to my parents. Though I'd like to think that's only for the little things that are not worth fighting over for, since if there's something I really feel strongly about, I'd be quite determined to stand up for it and refuse to change my ground on it. (I find that that seems to have happened more frequently as I got older.)

At least I hope it really is that way. :p

New blog! *beams*
music: Drop the Pilot - Mandy Moore
mood: Pleased

Yay, I finally have my new blog up and running! I've actually been considering getting a new blog for quite awhile; although I liked my livejournal one since I like livejournal's features, it really bothered me that I couldn't customise my layout and I'm too cheapo to actually get a paid account and too lazy to learn all sorts of complicated codes to get around the basic account so that it'll actually enable me to use my own layout. :p

Well, not that Greymatter doesn't have it's own share of problems - first off, although I'd used it before (hence the reason why I decided to use it this time round as well, since I figured I'd already be used to it), I'd forgotten just how complicated the installation could be. Though actually, I wouldn't really have had that many problems if it weren't for those stupid paths - it was HELL trying to fix the paths properly so that Greymatter's diagnostic repair tool would finally approve of my installation and give me the green light to use it. -_- Also, although it took me quite a while to figure out which tags to use and HOW to use them so that I can format my entries properly so that they wouldn't mess up the overall look of my layout, it wasn't exactly that they were difficult to understand (since they're actually quite commensensical as long as you have the list of the tags to look at) - more that it was just rather tedious and time-consuming.

Overall, though, I think I'm pretty glad to be using Greymatter. Now that everything's set, it's pretty easy to use, and finally I get an excuse to use this layout that's been rotting on my comp since practically forever. Plus, if those weren't enough to make me happy, I'm currently very, very happy about the fact that I can now display Pokelles *points at left hand column* in a permenant plus, AND the new code that I get to use for displaying him that I can now play with him on my blog as opposed to clicking on his pic which well send me to another page where I can play with him. And Pokelles is sooooooo cute that I doubt that I'd ever get tired of him. I love how he curls up into a little ball and bounces off-screen if you click on him enough times, and that adorable little scrunched-up-eyes-and-oh-so-cute-smile when you feed him a strawberry (AND if you look closely, he semi-wags his tail, er, quill, too!). I'm utterly smitten and have fallen all over in love with the darling again. :p (In case anyone's interested, I've always wanted to own a hedgehog, a fox, an otter and a ferret. Alas, I'm only too well aware of the fact that they're much better off in the wild than as domestic pets. *sigh*)

In any case, I decided to unveil my blog now that the exams are over. I think I might have royally bombed the exams - so much for all the studying during the holidays, since I think I barely remembered anything I studied then during the exams at all. It made me really frustrated with myself, since it seemed to me as if all that effort was wasted and it was as if I might as well not have studied at all and just left everything till the day before the exams. (Though I know such reasoning is very 自暴自弃) I seriously wish I didn't have a sieve for a brain. So much for deciding to end the vicious cycle of constantly disappointing my parents, huh? >_<

Though enough of exams. They're over, I really shouldn't harp on them. In other news, Ying and I went to Newstead Abbey today! It's where the home of Lord Byron is situated. Am feeling a bit lazy after typing out this already long entry, so I'll probably write up more about Newstead Abbey next time. Though in keeping with my new blog resolution, I shan't force myself to write about it if I don't feel like it. So we'll see whether I get in the mood for it or not - hopefully once Ying sends me the picutures (silly me forgot my own camera), I'll feel inspired to write more. :p
