Hilariousness
music: Maggaare Spectacle - Ono Daisuke as Koizumi Itsuki from The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi
mood: Amused
Funny link of the day: A spoof Wikipedia entry on Singapore. It's incredibly well done, you can tell there's been a lot of effort put into it to make all the other sub-pages that the main page links to ala the true Wikipedia way of having information pages on just about everything. My favourite bit? The part where under "Religion", it's stated as being "The Father, the Son, and the Holy Goh. Aiyamen." Priceless. (And incredibly true. :p)
Other notable excerpts for those who can't be bothered to read through everything (goodness knows I didn't):
Merlions needed no external food supply and simply eat tourists from Sentosa.
Legal System and Judiciary

Since then, Singapore's Ministry of Foreigner Affairs (it has been reported that many Singaporean men have "foreign affairs" in Batam)
p/s I've decided to do what some of my other friends do and reply to comments in the comments page itself. So if you've commented on any of my entries, just check back next time to see if I've replied to it. :D [Karma: -6 (+/-)][link]

Tired but satisfied
music: Shooting Star - Onegai Teacher OP
mood: Self-satisfied
My god, I can't believe how my quest to give the kitchen a TRUE cleaning over has developed into a multiple day task. Previously I'd pretty much only ever wiped the tabletops and the hob, and swept the floor, and occassionally cleaned the bottom and outside of my rice cooker, but this time I decided to really go over everything, so I've had to break down all the cleaning into short little bursts just so that I wouldn't get too exhausted and grumpy. It's been really tiring, but the self-satisfaction I get from looking at the fruits of my hard labour is probably worth it. I'm especially proud of the sparkling clean fridge (it's actually a gleaming white now) that I cleaned today. :D So for more self-gratification, here's a list of what I've done so far in the past three days (with qualifiers just so that I can pai1 my own ma3 pi4. :p):
1) Washed up all the left-over cutlery/dishes/pots/pans/cork coasters for hot dishes that were lying in and around the sink
2) Threw away the rubbish on the counter-tops
3) Cleaned the extremely filthy hob
4) Scrubbed the counter and the walls near the sink and counter
5) Cleaned the rice cooker, the crumb-filled toaster and the grill (though M had pretty much done the job for the grill already)
6) Kept all the already washed dishes and cutlery etc. in their respective cupboards
7) Cleaned the horribly grimy fridge, both inside and out. (I think none of us really realised how dirty it had gotten - there was all this encrusted tomato juice and possibly cheese in the bit where the rubber wraps around the sides of the metallic fridge door) Though the inside isn't 100% clean since I couldn't be bothered to take out all the food just so I could scrub the shelves and the walls. But I did wash some bits of the walls and a fruit/veg drawer.
And next on the list:
8) Clean the microwave, especially the inside since there's lots of gunk encrusted inside
9) Vacuum and mop the floor (Which is in DIRE need of cleaning)
10) Possibly clean the tiled area near the window, though I may feel too lazy to do that.
I think it's actually quite amazing how much cleaning I can do when I'm in the proper mood. :D
(Yes I know, I'm being incredibly thick-skinned and big-headed and cui1 niu2-y, but just give me my moment's preening, please. I think it's been hard earned. :D) *rests her tired arms and feet* [Karma: 1 (+/-)][link]

The Last Unicorn DVD
music: 城里的月光 - Theme song from 豆腐街
mood: Deliriously ecstatic
GAHHHHH!!!! Oh my god, I just found out that there's a new 25th Anniversary special edition DVD of the Last Unicorn animation!!!!!!!!
The Last Unicorn (by Peter S. Beagle) has got to be one of my most favourite books of all time (I've borrowed it from the library countless times to re-read it over and over again), and I've always wanted to watch the animated version. And now they have this new DVD out which apparently has been remastered so it's better quality!!!!!! Yes, you can tell from all the exclamation marks that I'm REALLY excited about this. I think I'm definitely going to order this since it's got a pretty affordable price too, considering it's a DVD. (Though Amazon's discount of 1p amuses me. :p)
I've always wanted to buy the book as well, but it's pretty old so I haven't really been able to find a copy. And Amazon doesn't seem to stock up any - at least not the ones with affordable prices. (There's a hardcover signed version going for £16.34, and as much as I'd love to have it, the price is too much for me. -_-) It's really quite amazing how much the used copies sold at the Amazon market place are going for - they range from an already sizeable sum of £20+ to almost £140!!!!!!! I suppose it's because these are the older versions and thus somewhat of a collector's item, but still. It boggles the mind.
Though I've managed to find some Amazon market place sellers selling the book for pretty affordable prices (about £4), so I'm wondering whether I should take the risk and buy it. There's always the possibility that the quality of the book may not be as good as stated, and not to mention that market place items don't come under the £15 free shipping thing that amazon has, which means that I'll have to pay another £2.75 for shipping... Maybe I should just try hunting around for it back in Singapore. :( [Karma: 2 (+/-)][link]

Paintballing pictures
mood: Lazy

Two innocents blissfully unaware of the horrors to come... (YegadsIhatemyteeth)

Nice and clean... taken before the deluge of paint. Though actually I wouldn't really say "clean", since the equipment wasn't exactly in... pristine condition. (Oh man, the mud-covered belt... *shudders*)

Note the huge amount of paint smooshed all around my mouth... yucks, it tasted terrible. >_<

Close-up of my lovely yellow-tinged lips. Complete with stunningly beautiful grimace.

Looking totally unrecognisable in my "terrorist" gear.
More pictures of my war trophies soon to come! Watch this entry for future updates! (I hate not being able to upload pics to my website. -_-)
EDIT (13/04/2007): Finally uploaded pictures of my war trophies! They're just going to be text links since they're too scandalous to be displayed openly. *laughs*
My totally ravaged arm - this was the worst with 12 bruises that I counted.
A closeup of my hugest cluster of bruises that was on my right (?) thigh. The picture cannot convey the full grotesqueness of the real thing. :p
My entire mutilated right leg - actually, it's not really the entire one since I still have a clump of bruises nearer my hibone/butt area and that picture was just TOO scandalous to even upload. :p
Closer look at the right leg. [Karma: 1 (+/-)][link]

New Nintendo DS Lite!

I finally succumbed to temptation and bought a Nintendo DS Lite!

A keychain one. XD
Here's a picture of my new darling:

(The pic might take a while to load since I stupidly forgot to resize it physically - the smaller size you see here is all done through html. And I can't reupload it since I can't access the website account; I had to ask T to help me with upload this. Anyway, since it's already uploaded, I decided to link it so that you can click on the picture if you want to see it in all its full glory. :p Though since I took the pics on my phone, it's kinda blurry...)
And my friends are no fun at all. The only one who really had a good reaction was Dee(sease). *pouts*
That aside, the keychain is really cute! I got it off ebay and when I first saw it I KNEW I had to have it. I'm a sucker for keychains/handphone straps (even though I never really buy any since I'm cheapo), and I just found it so incredibly adorable that there was a mini replica of a Nintendo DS Lite (which I really really want), so it was just perfect. :D The price was pretty good too, a very normal price for a keychain, I think. (And possibly cheaper) It's probably because it's originally one of those gashapon machine capsule thingies, but even then it's amazingly well-made. It even has the tiny little details like the slot where the game catridge goes in and the printing on the back of the "console". And it even comes with a fako game that you can open up to show the "cartridge" inside (Though the "game" looks really, really weird. 0_o). Some more pictures for those interested:

The back with the authentic printing across it.

You can see the titchy little game cartridge. :D
Oh, and an interesting thing about the auction was that someone actually asked whether you could play games on it, even though the auction very clearly stated that it was just a mini replica. I found that quite amusing. :p
Now the problem is just of where to put it... I was thinking of attaching it to my handphone, since my phone's black too and it'll match, but whilst in Notts I always put my handphone in my jeans pocket which is kind of tight and that may damage DS, since it's relatively big... maybe I'll attach it to my black doggy pencil case since my Renji keychain broke off. (I still need to find something big enough to poke a hole through the cord of the Renji keychain so that I can fix it) Oh well, we shall see...
Also, I'll be posting an entry later with my paintballing pics since some people mentioned wanting to see them *looks pointedly at K*, so watch out for them! Though there's not many - none of the actual paintballing itself (impossible to take since everyone's paintballing at the same time and you definitely don't want to bring your camera in to the warzone and risk getting it damaged), and I won't be putting up all of the "war trophy" pics. :p [Karma: 0 (+/-)][link] [2 Comments]

Interesting.
music: The Reason - Hoobastank
mood: In dire need of motivation to study
The widespread assumption that Chinese and Japanese are related languages has no linguistic basis. In linguistic analysis, Chinese has four prinicipal characteristics: its words are basically monosyllabic; the words are uninflected, having no variable endings to indicate tense, number*, subject or object, and so on; the language abounds in similar-sounding words, or homophones, which are differentiated in part by being pronounced in the varied tones that give Chinese what seems to Westerners a sing-song+ quality; and the sentences normally follow a word order similar to the English noun-verb-adjective-noun sequence. Japanese differs markedly in all these aspects. What confuses the uninitiated is that Japan early borrowed China's nonalphabetic writing system, as did Korea and Vietnam, all adapting it to their own purposes. Writing systems, however, have no necessary correlation with linguistic relationships. Borrowing Chinese written forms for other languages has no more linguistic significance than the modern use of the so-called Arabic numberals throughout the world.
~ Excerpt from "China's Imperial Past: An Introduction to Chinese History and Culture" by Charles O. Hucker~
* This reminds me of the time when I was at the class bench with some other 03A11 friends, and we were joking around and saying stuff like, "You have a ping2 guo3 (i.e. apple). I have many ping2 guos3." :p
+ Though slightly unrelated, this also reminds me of how I was totally thrown off track when my housemate S mentioned that she liked how I sometimes "sang" back my answers to her whenever she asked me a question. I.e. When she asks me if I want to go out and I go "Okay!" in a sing-songy way. To me it was something perfectly normal since my friends sometimes do that too, so I thought it wasn't anything of note. But apparently to her and M it is. :p I say this is unrelated to the excerpt above because I personally think the sing-songyness really is more of a result of my personality, though S and M (*snerks at the rather unfortunate abbreviation*) thought it might have to do with the fact that I speak Mandarinbadly.

Twitter!
mood: Hungry
Just added my Twitterbox to the column on the left - I really only signed up for it because xCx said she'd get a Facebook account if I joined. :p Since I've never used mobile blogging before, I don't actually know whether I'd make much use of it, especially since I'm more the long-winded rambly blogger type, as opposed to mobile blog entries which are really short and concise, but we'll see how it goes. :)
Oh, and for those friends interested who have lots of free smses, do sign up so that I can add you to my friends list! :D
p/s I don't actually like the colour of my Twitterbox... the colours they ask you to pick don't actually look anything like it once it's applied to the box. :( [Karma: -5 (+/-)][link] [1 Comment]

Paintballing
mood: Tired
Omg, I just came back from MSS paintballing and after peeling off my clothes to look at my poor battered body, I think I now look like an abuse victim. 0_o I had been warned before by friends who had gone paintballing before that it hurt, and I thought I was mentally prepared for it, but boy was I ever wrong. It doesn't just hurt, it really, really, really HURTS!!!!! (Complete with lots of exclamation marks!) Apparently paintballs travel at a speed of at least (or is it up to?) 100miles per hour, so you can imagine they really pack quite a punch. Though now that the actual thing is over, I'm actually quite morbidly pleased with my war trophies. Though I bet if you had asked me during the game about how I felt when I got hit, I would probably have said I wanted to die. ^_^;; [More...] [Karma: -5 (+/-)][link]

RAAAAAARRRRRR
mood: Pissed off
God I HATE the PB porter. He simply REVELS in making things difficult for people, and then loves to pretend as if he's actually making things easier for us when he's so clearly not, with that veneer of "I am here talking to you sensibly and objectively as if I am the much more superior person even though what I'm saying is really a load of bull and I so totally know that I can do this because I am Staff-with-a-capital-S and you're just a puny student with no rights and really, why am I even standing here wasting my time talking to you here since everything will go my way anyway and you're just going to get screwed over because I say so." Not to mention he enjoys making it seem as if everything is your fault when in actuality, he is partly, if not fully, to blame for not explaining himself clearly and for not providing enough information.

God I HATE the PB porter. 6 Weird Things About Me (Sounds like one of those cheesey movie titles. :p)
mood: Hungry
I was tagged by K! It's actually really similar to some other meme that I was thinking of doing ages ago, but which I never got around to doing, so I suppose it's a good thing I got tagged. :p Maybe I should dig up that other meme and start it up too. The problem is that I don't actually have that many people to tag, will just end up tagging the same people over and over again. ^_^;;
Instructions:
This is what you are supposed to cut and paste if you decide to participate in the tagging game. Each player of this game starts off by giving 6 weird things about themselves. People who get tagged need to write in a blog of their own 6 weird things as well as state the rules clearly. In the end, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. After you do that, leave them each a comment letting them know you tagged them and to read your blog.
1) I used to like sweets when I was a kid, but now I don't really like them anymore, especially the hard candy type, or most sugar-coated types - though I'm ok with the softer stuff like frutella and gummy bears (which I LOVE!).
2) This quirk of mine is a little hard to explain, but I'll try my best: When I'm surfing the internet or looking through files on my computer and I use browser windows or folder windows, I always always ALWAYS have to return to the original window after a while. For instance, if I start off using Gmail in one browser window, and after having clicked around in that window until I've eventually gone to ten different sites in the same browser window, I MUST go all the way back to Gmail, the original site I started out on. I have NO idea why I have this neurosis, I just do. Maybe I just don't like the idea of being so far away from the starting point? I really don't know.
3) I have never had a proper crush on somebody. Eye candies, yes, (albeit even those much later than my peers! I think I only really started getting interested in guys in JC) but nobody's ever set my heart racing before. I personally don't think it's that big a deal, but since lots of people seem to always be really shocked when I tell them this... *shrugs*
4) I am very neurotic when it comes to eating. I used to not be able to stand having my sauces touch my rice on my plate. I'm better with that now (I actually EAT stuff with sauce now, as opposed to last time when I hardly ever), but sometimes I find that I'll still occassionally return to my previous habit of eating what's on my plate in turns: I.e. If I have broccoli, meat and rice on my plate, I'll eat the meat first, then the broccoli, and then the rice, instead of eating the meat with rice or the broccoli with the rice. :p
5) I have this bad habit of thinking that people are thinking what I'm thinking (Banna in Pyjama vibes, anyone?), and so I sometimes seem to randomly blurt out stuff completely unrelated to what I was talking about earlier. Or to put it more accurately, it's more like I have a very weird thought pattern that jumps from topic to topic and I just don't realise that people aren't having the same thought processes as I do.
6) I generally don't like being touched unnecessarily, or having my personal space invaded, but sometimes I have the urge to hug my friends randomly. :p
People I'm tagging (I've decided to stop using only initials since it gets confusing sometimes and shall just use nicknames. :p): Tiff, xxCxx, Di, Dee(sease), M and Dunkirk C (the one with the Wii. :p Though I'll probably have to tell her about this since I don't think she reads my blog).
