04/02/2009: "A rolling good time"
Because I realised I really should post more entries of substance as opposed to angsty emo posts that no one ever wants to read anyway, I'll be backblogging about the mostly good stuff that's happened to me lately (totally in no chronological order). The first entry up is about...
Bowling!
Went for bowling with my department on the 26th! I'd been looking forward to it since it was first announced since I love bowling, but I was feeling kind of deflated on the day itself since alot of people I was more familiar with weren't going, and plus I had to finish up something in the office so I was late for the session. But it turned out to be great fun! I'd forgotten how much I love bowling; I really really missed it. Wish I could play it more regularly but unfortunately I don't really have anyone who'd want to do so regularly (TWINS COME BACK! i_i).
I totally sucked initially though - I got a score of 65 for the first game! Which, if you're like me and used to be in the bowling team (even if I wasn't one of the top bowlers), IS REALLY REALLY SUCKY AND COMPLETELY EGO-SHATTERING. In fact, I was so bad that halfway through that first game one of the secretaries asked me, "You used to be in the bowling team right?" and from the expression on her face I could so totally tell she was thinking, "Wow, she claims to be in the bowling team but she's this bad!?" (Before anyone gets the wrong impression, let me say that the secretary is really really nice [she's one of the most helpful people I know] and wasn't being mean, I think she was just kind of in disbelief at how bad I was. ^_^;;)
Thankfully, after the initial suckiness my groove came back and although I didn't score anywhere near as high as when I was at my peak back in my bowling team days, I got the following scores (yes I recorded the scores for my ego's sake): 123, 111, 132, 92. Which is not TOO bad since it comes down to an average score of 104.6. In case anyone wonders why I managed to play so many games (even though we had so many people and only 4 lanes), it's because towards the end lots of people left so the ones left behind got to double up - in my case, I got to triple (maybe even quadruple?) up. :D
Also, another good thing that came out of the outing was that I really got to know the secretaries better. When I first started out, because I was so shy and because I'm the kind who finds it difficult to engage in small talk, plus because I was never formally introduced to a lot of people and I'm the kind who can't really take the initiative to talk to people unless I've been introduced to them or they start talking to me first, I felt kind of lonely since I couldn't really interact with the others, even though they're all really nice and friendly people.
But after a department lunch with some of them, my relationship with them got somewhat warmer, and now thanks to this bowling outing I feel like I've hit the turning point where I'm now considered one of them. The only thing that makes me feel sad about this is that I'm going to be stopping work in a few months (this will be elaborated on in a further entry), which means I'll be leaving just when our relations got better. :( But well, better late than never I suppose! :)
